Understanding the Growing Online Threat

Sextortion occurs when someone manipulates, threatens, or blackmails a child or teen into sending explicit images, videos, or money.

Predators often pretend to be teenagers or trusted individuals online before gaining trust and exploiting victims.

These crimes frequently happen through:

● Instagram

● Snapchat

TikTok

● Facebook

● Discord

Gaming platforms

Messaging apps

Common Tactics Used by Offenders

1. Fake Profiles - Predators pretend to be someone attractive or relatable.

2. Emotional Manipulation - They build trust quickly through compliments and emotional attention.

5. Financial Extortion - Demanding money to prevent image leaks.

4. Requests for Private Photos - They pressure children to send personal content.
